Perhaps if I had remembered it was Head of the Charles, I wouldnapos;t have taken the dog with me to the farmerapos;s market in Cambridge. On the other hand, he was very good, and heapos;s good for meeting boys. He has excellent taste.
My brother was supposed to come for dinner tonight. He had a headache, though, and so we rescheduled for Tuesday. I started preparing some of the meal already, since in theory I will be coming home from work and doing the cooking pronto on Tuesday, so as much prep work as possible should be done now. I think I have failed at making the potato sog he asked for at the quality that my mother makes it, but luckily, since itapos;s essentially mac and cheese with potatoes instead of pasta, even failed should still be yummy. I may need to make extra sauce tomorrow, since I donapos;t think I had enough in it, and some potatoes arenapos;t covered. There will also be delicata squash cooked with butter and sage and possibly apple crisp, but both of those can be made Tuesday while the potato sog bakes.
I am now caught up with True Blood (well, okay, I think I just fell behind, but we donapos;t have it yet, so it doesnapos;t count. (Hannah gets it from the internets, I get it from the yellowdog. And not yellowdognet, the actual yellowdog.)) and The Middleman. (Oh my god, the middlenudity. Strangely hot. Particularly with the chaps.) I have also watched all the free episodes of CSI NY and CSI that are available (theyapos;re amazing for cross-stitching to since it really doesnapos;t matter if youapos;re paying attention or not.) I have a few episodes each left of Doctor Who (4th season) and Torchwood (second season), and I just downloaded first and second seasons of Eureka. I just donapos;t have the patience to wait for TV shows on Netflix since thatapos;s only three episodes at a time, and what if I want to watch 4 in a row? Incidentally, of the above, I recommend The Middleman and Eureka highly, Doctor Who of course, and Torchwood is surprisingly not as bad this season as people claimed it would be.

Hangovers...
If youapos;ve never experienced a hangover...

You have a second heartbeat in your head which is actually annoying the person sitting next to you
Vodka vapor is seeping out of every pore and making you dizzy.
You still have toothpaste crust in the corners of your mouth from brushing your teeth in an attempt to get rid of that nasty taste.
Yoursquo;ve had 4 cups of coffee, a gallon of water, 2 Sausage Rolls and a litre of diet coke - yet you havenrsquo;t peed once.
you have the attention span and mental capacity of a stapler.
Your body has lost the ability to generate saliva, so your tongue is so dry itapos;s suffocating you.
You would give a weeks pay for one the following: 1. Home time, 2. A duvet and somewhere to be alone, or 3. A time machine so you could go back and NOT have gone out the night before.
Death seems pretty good right now.
You definitely donapos;t remember who you were with, where you were, what you drank, and why there is a stranger still sleeping in your bed at your house.

This morning I walked up to the Forks with Val, intent on having coffee and then grabbing some cinnamon buns from Tall Grass bakery.
While I was in line at the bakery, I bumped in my old judo sensei, Brian. Little known fact for those of you whoapos;ve only known me a few years: I have a shodan in judo.
Brian, as is his wont, attempted to recruit me back to judo. I dunno. Iapos;m fat and old and out of shape. (Jessica says I canapos;t use old as an excuse because Brian is 71) It would be fun, I think, except for the part where I would die. Also, I have a few concerns about development in that the way judo is structured in North America, you donapos;t have a lot to do if you arenapos;t a competitor or a coach.
Well, weapos;ll see. Maybe if I lose 10-20 pounds between now and January.
The cinnamon buns are delicious.

So
he was running in the beginning,
running to put the shrieks and screams and moans and yells and cries for god behind him.
but they were all over really, in front and to the side, and everytime he dodged what looked like what was once a person,
the sounds followed.
there was the pounding sound of frenzy in the streets. In the city. And gunshots rang out of all caliber.
the police, well, the police were probably no more, and now it was every citizen for himself.
it was him, on his own for himself.
he tucked into an alley, the flames of a nearby car wreck tickling his face, making the sweat bead beneath his shirt as it trickled down. How long had this been going on for? he shut his eyes and leaned against the brick of the boutique shop, how long had he been running and putting foot to pavement?
there has to be a way out. He couldnapos;t take anymore of this frantic state of being. He peeked around the corner, eyeing the street with suspicion, it was quiet now.
just the roar and snap of the fire.
something lurched in his peripheral, he hadnapos;t checked the alley to make sure that it was clear.
wet hands grabbed his shirt, tugging at it impatiently and blindly.
there was meat there.
he pulled away and the arms grabbed his body, one high on his back and the other just below his sternum. And they pulled.
they pulled with a force that they had always really had, but never used because when there were meat markets and grocery stores that provided all that was once hunted, you didnapos;t need the hidden strength of man.
it was not until your mind was rotten with disease and your other senses were blocked that you overcame the phsyical obstacle you never though possible.
like digging your broken dirty nails into fabric and flesh
and ripping it all away.
like peeling a banana really, easy when you want it THIS BAD. Sucking and teething on the piece of meat, the tongue half gone already working its way into the flesh, pulling and tugging.
and there was the sound of pain and gurgling, and rush after rush of hot blood.
hot and steamy and you bury your face deep into it, licking the bone clean and wanting more than anything to crack through to the organs just hiding beneath it.
and thatapos;s what itapos;s all about.
yeah.
i got excited.
today was a good day
nothing seems to get me down.

Daniel and I took Millie swimming for the first time today. She loved it Splashing around, kicking her chubby legs, staring at the other babies. We were there for a whole hour and, in the end, it was mama and papa who wanted to get out of the pool, not Millie She was fascinated with the bigger kids in their swimming class and had to try jumping into the pool just like they did. I haven't seen her so happy for so long in quite some time.
So cute, I can't wait to take her back next week

Why does the government of Canada bother to provide internet services if they can only be accessed by the most antiquated browser versions. It is basic logic that the most likely users of an internet service will be those that are at least moderately up-to-date with technology.
And, on the topic of government, as an anglophone Quebecer with a conservative federal overlord, I feel loved. Maybe thereapos;s a banana republic with better weather I could try.
